Birthday

Now that summer school has started, I am not sure how I have even found the time to breathe.

I have a lot of blogging to catch up on but I wanted to take a moment and wish my boyfriend a very happy 23rd birthday!

I love you babe!

DIY Re-Modeling

The bedroom furniture that we have been using for the last couple of years is JJ's. It is about ten years old and looked good at one time. It has some water stains, discolorations, and scratches. I hated the knobs and the color. Over the last couple of months I have been doing some searching for new furniture. Unfortunately it so out of our budget right now. We really cannot afford to drop nearly a thousand dollars on a whole new set.

In order to get the look of new furniture without the cost, I decided to sand the old furniture, paint it black, and add new knobs. I have been dying for a new bed. No painting will fix the horrible roller bed rails. That is the one thing we are going to buy along with a new comforter set.

I have taken pictures of the furniture in its current state. I will wait to post them along with the after pictures! One piece down Three to go!

Here are the bed and comforter we are getting.

Good! Enjoying my couple of weeks off before summer school starts!

2.) Do you take vitamins every day?
No, I probably should.

3.) Do you prefer sweet (chocolate/sugar) or salty (chips, etc.) type snacks?
Sweet! Then after I eat something sweet I crave something salty.

4.) Current nail polish:

5.) What color are the walls of your bedroom?
Sadly, White. I live in an apartment so we are not allowed to paint.

I like cooking at home mostly because it is cheaper. We usually eat out at least once a week though.

8.) What is your favorite television program?

The Royal Wedding

Did you watch? I did not get up at 4am to watch. I had been pulling multiple all nighters studying for finals and Thursday night was my first night of actual sleep all week. Instead, I got up at 7 to let the dogs out (I was dog-sitting for my parents who went out of town for a wedding)and then laid on the sofa to watch what was left of the live coverage. The wedding had already ended and they were on their way to Buckingham Palace to kiss on the balcony.

So here are some thoughts based off of pictures and what I saw:

1. Her dress was GORGEOUS. I was very interested to see how she was going to take the tradition of a dress with sleeves and make it modern. Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen did a wonderful job and I am sure McQueen was equally proud of her work. I was also very interested to see what he would wear. I think we all knew he would wear a military uniform of sorts but I was somewhat surprised to see the bold red uniform he wore.

2. Pippa, Kate's sister wore white like the bride. I saw a lot of people in an uproar over her wearing white which many say is a no-no. I think there were so many things that were different than the "average" wedding that nothing should come as a surprise. I think the dress was beautiful and she looked great wearing it, white or not.

3. Hats. I don't even know where to begin. I am not a big hat person. There were some outfits that looked great and then there were others. Like this. Beatrice, what in the world were you thinking. That is hideous!!!!

Changes

I grew up in Greensboro. I spent my first 3 years of college there. I was ready for a change. So JJ and I packed up and moved to Charlotte to attend school, get a change in scenery and just venture out and try something new.

The cost of living down there is pretty high. It is a big(ger)city compared to Greensboro. We moved into a one bedroom one bathroom, 617 square foot apartment, in other words tiny. I think that really put a strain on our relationship because we were constantly in each others space. There was no where to "get away."

Charlotte is about an hour and a half from Greensboro. We found ourselves going home every weekend. That is where our friends were. I hated not knowing where I was going in Charlotte. I knew how to get to 3 places, school, Harris Teeter (grocery store) and Target.

When we started talking about transferring back to a school in Greensboro my dad's office manager asked me if I wanted to work there once I moved back instead of going back to my job at the pharmacy. The pay was better and I was working at my dads offices so it sounded like a done deal.

So we moved back to Greensboro. We found a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment that was 950 square feet and only 8 dollars more than what we were paying in Charlotte. We had so much more space. We moved back to Greensboro last summer. (June of 2010) I started working at my dads office and quickly became annoyed. I hated sitting at a desk all day having no human interaction. I cannot sit and stare at a computer screen for 8 hours a day, that is so not my thing. To make that worse, I felt like I was doing bitch work. You know all the nitty gritty stuff that no one else wants to do.

As soon as the school year started in August, I quit. I started my job again at the pharmacy which is so much more of my working style. We both started school in the fall at UNC-Greensboro. Which leads me to where we are today. Finishing up the semester in just a few short days.

We got a dog the day UCONN won the National Championship, his name is Kemba, named after Kemba Walker. JJ is a huge UCONN fan so it was only fitting to name him Kemba.

I think that catches me up to speed. Clearly this blog needs a make over. I guess that is next on the list.

Happy Monday!
